scope: Originally built in the 1970s with an addition and renovation in the 1990s, the Prospect Heights Public Library is a single level library that functioned as a series of separate spaces within the overall building envelope of the library.
project 1: masterplan The initial phase of the project was to perform a master plan study to understand current functions and spaces within the existing Library. Our team developed options to reorganize the floorplan to include an expanded youth area and program room, a new teen space, a maker space, additional study rooms, a relocated entrance, and administration spaces for a holistic view of the entire building.
project 2: full interior renovation + new entry plaza The final project, completed on time and under budget, includes a new divisible large meeting room, 6 study rooms, a new dedicated maker space, and an expanded youth services area, including a hands-on early learning play area and program room. The existing library entrance was relocated to the east side of the building, which is adjacent to the main parking, creating a new entry plaza for outdoor programming. A new drive-thru book drop-off/pick-up window was also added to the to the east side of the library adjacent to the circulation workroom. The new outdoor plaza serves as a “wow” factor for the library, and is complete with a new water fountain, patron seating, and an indoor/outdoor fireplace.
